Fiji Resort Hopping for Families: A Tropical Odyssey of Adventure and Discovery

The Fiji Islands, a breathtaking archipelago in the South Pacific, have long been hailed as a paradise for travelers seeking sun-soaked beaches and azure waters. While many families find solace in the comfort of their resort, a thrilling alternative awaits those who yearn for more excitement and cultural immersion. Resort hopping in Fiji offers a unique opportunity to explore a diverse array of experiences, from pool-hopping on the Bula Bus to indulging in soothing mud baths, partaking in traditional kava ceremonies, island-hopping, and exploring the bustling city of Nadi. In this immersive journey of 1,000 words, we delve into the enchanting escapades that await families on their Fiji resort-hopping odyssey.

The Bula Bus Adventure

Despite the occasional “hotel guests only” signs, we couldn’t resist the allure of the Bula Bus. As it meandered through seven stunning resorts, we hopped aboard, ready for thrilling escapades. The refreshing waters of each hotel pool beckoned us, and with the warm sun overhead, we reveled in the sheer joy of each splash. To allay any sense of guilt, we ensured that we enjoyed the hospitality of the resorts, savoring morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, and even a delightful dinner at the Westin. As seasoned Bula Bus enthusiasts, we discovered a top tip: carrying our own towels to Fiji saved us from sticking out with the wrong hotel towel, adding a touch of authenticity to our hopping excursions.

The Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool

For a true family-bonding experience, we set our sights on the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool. Excitement rippled through us as the kids eagerly anticipated getting coated in the therapeutic thermal mud, while we parents looked forward to the indulgence of hot baths to wash it off. The simple setup belied the immense relaxation that enveloped us as we soaked in the rejuvenating waters. Surrounded by nature’s beauty, the notion of being in the middle of nowhere quickly faded away. We immersed ourselves in the baths, losing track of time and reveling in the simple joy of this off-the-beaten-path gem. As an added delight, a side trip to the nearby Garden of the Sleeping Giant awaited, promising even more wonders to behold.

Kava Drinking: A Cultural Delight

In our quest for authentic Fijian experiences, we chose to embrace the time-honored tradition of kava drinking. Eager to immerse ourselves in the local culture, we had two options: joining an organized tour to an ‘authentic Fijian village’ for a kava ceremony or forging friendships with resort staff and being invited into their village to meet the chief. Opting for the latter, we embarked on a memorable afternoon that involved buying kava from local markets to present as a gift to the chief. Driving out to the village of Nawaka, just outside Nadi, we embraced the warmth and friendliness of the villagers. The kava ceremony served as a bridge, bringing our families together and forging unforgettable bonds.

Island Exploration: Savala Island and Treasure Island

Beyond the main island of Fiji, a world of exploration beckoned us to the pristine isles of Savala and Treasure. Setting sail on the Oolala Cruise by Storck Cruises, we ventured to Savala Island, a deserted oasis adorned with only a shade structure and basic amenities. The untouched beauty of this island greeted us, offering opportunities for snorkeling, paddleboarding, canoeing, and swimming. Yet, the true highlight was the jovial boat journey with the cheerful cruise staff, regaling us with songs and guitar tunes that filled the air with delight.

Our next island adventure led us to Treasure Island with South Sea Cruises. As we disembarked onto this larger island, a paradise unfolded before our eyes. Though the resort appeared somewhat rundown, the allure of the turquoise waters and vibrant marine life beckoned us into the ocean. Snorkeling proved to be an unforgettable experience, with our son captivated by the presence of resident turtles and the exhilarating water trampoline. While a day on Treasure Island was blissful, we realized that staying here for an entire week might leave us longing for more activities and exploration.

Exploring Nadi: A Journey of Curiosity

While some families find bliss in their serene Fijian resorts, our curiosity drove us to the bustling city of Nadi. Here, we wandered through vibrant markets and charming streets, eager to meet the locals and capture the essence of Fijian life. Nadi, a friendly and welcoming city, offered us a glimpse into the lives of its residents. For our Aussie children, this vibrant city became an eye-opener, a place of intriguing discoveries. Conversations flowed as we discussed the nature of wealth and true happiness, all while observing the radiant smiles of Fijian children who seemed content despite possessing little material wealth.

In conclusion, Fiji resort hopping is a kaleidoscope of experiences, offering families an unforgettable odyssey of adventure and discovery. From the joyous escapades on the Bula Bus to the serene indulgence of the Sabeto Hot Springs and Mud Pool, the cultural delights of kava drinking, the enchanting island exploration of Savala and Treasure, and the vibrant city journey in Nadi, Fiji paints a canvas of cherished memories. Beyond the postcard-perfect beaches, this tropical haven beckons families to delve into its heart and soul, forging connections with its people and uncovering the true essence of Fiji’s allure. A resort-hopping escapade through Fiji promises not just a vacation but a journey of a lifetime, where each moment unfolds as a cherished treasure to be savored for generations to come.
